- מְרִירָהf. (b. h.; preced. wds.) (b. h. bile, bitterness, trnsf. 1) sin. Ex. R. s. 43 (ref. to ויחל, Ex. 32:11) חַלֵּי מְרִירָתָןוכ׳ sweeten thou the bitterness of Israel (pardon their sins) and heal them.Pl. מְרִירוֹת. Ib. מי שיחלה המ׳ שלנו one to sweeten our bitternesses (to pray for us). Lev. R. s. 12 (ref. to Deut. 32:32) הללו שהביאו מ׳וכ׳ it is they (the grapes) that brought sins 2) (v. next w.; cmp. לַעֲנָה II) curse. Midr. Till. to Ps. 90:9 (expl. הֶגֶה ib.; cmp. הָגָה a. אָגָא) זו מ׳ that means ‘curse.
